Last week, during our optionsXposm annual conference in Chicago, a customer
asked me what books are on my reading list for this fall. I’ll share with you what I shared with her.
The current book on my nightstand is "The Economic Naturalist" written by Robert H. Frank, an economics professor at Cornell University. Many people hear the word "Economic" in the title and immediately dismiss it as dry and uninteresting because deals with the "dismal science."
Professor Frank, on the other hand, has written a witty, lively book that explains basic economic principles using everyday examples, some of which include: “Have you ever wondered why it costs more to fly round-trip from Kansas City to Orlando than from Orlando to Kansas City?” or “Why are there often fewer cabs running on rainy days?” If you loved Freakanomics by Levitt and Dubner you really should pick up this book too. It is an easy read. Plus, you can work some economics into your dinnertime talk.
